Bodywork
Associates is
now Total Life
Fitness! But
that's the only
change.
Josh,
Paul,
and Kimberley are
still working
working hard,
bringing their
own styles to
the table, to
help you prepare
for your day,
recover from
your day,
rehabilitate old
muscle woes, or
just help rid
you of your
stress!
Massage and
Bodywork are
often used in
conjunction with
one another, but
they are
different in
many respects!
Both have the
same goal and
similar
definitions, so
what are the
differences?
Massage is the
use of various
tools- hands,
elbows, etc-
typically with
the use of
lubricant, to
flush muscle
tissue of
toxins, relieve
soreness,
elongate
tissues, and
break up scar
tissue, by way
of gliding
across the
muscle fibers.
Bodywork is a
catch all phrase
used to describe
various
"modalities"- or
systems- any
form of soft
tissue
manipulation.
This includes
not only
massage, but
assisted
stretching, ART,
NMR, Trigger
Point Therapy,
and many more! |

Sports Massage- the
specific application of
massage and bodywork
modalities to prepare,
enhance and rehabilitate
the competitive athlete.
Clinical Massage- The systematic use of
clinically centered
manual modalities to
affect positive change
within the client, the
use of assessment tools,
tests, and relevant
material, the creation
of new or adoption of
existing functional
goals and outcomes, and
the active role as part
of the clients treatment
plan as an adjunct
modality or solo
practitioner.
Energy work- a general
term for modalities that
are based on the idea
that the human body
consists of energy
fields that can be
stimulated through
various techniques in
order to promote
wellness. The concept
of energy fields as a
vital life force can be
traced back to the
oldest medical systems
and is known as
Qi in China,
ki in
Japan, and prana
in India.
